Logistics Support for Seaport-e
Description of Functional Area Support
This functional area consists of applying the engineering and analytical disciplines required to implement acquisition logistics as a multi-functional technical management discipline associated with the design, development, test, production, fielding, sustainment, and improvement modifications of cost effective systems that achieve the warfighters’ peacetime and wartime readiness requirements. The principal objectives of acquisition logistics are to ensure that support considerations are an integral part of the system’s design requirements, that the system can be cost effectively supported through its life-cycle, and that the infrastructure elements necessary to the initial fielding, operation, and maintenance support of the system are identified and developed and acquired.
Relevant Team Experience
BFS specializes in the use of Dry Ice (solid Carbon Dioxide) cleaning technology. BFS is licensed, certified, and bonded; it has used this waterless, environmentally friendly cleaning process for 13 years as a non-abrasive, non-toxic alternative to sandblasting, hydro-jet blasting, and conventional processes that use walnut shells, glass beads, chemical solvents, or manual labor. The Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and U.S. Department of Agriculture recognize using Dry Ice to clean contaminated surfaces, sterilize as it cleans, and remove toxic and non-toxic contaminants including mold. BFS has used Dry Ice to successfully clean components, turbines, and hydro-generators at four commercial power plants during the last five months. Its most recent contract required cleaning the interior surfaces of galley range hoods, galley and scullery supply and exhaust vent ducting, and fan casings screens and terminals on the USS Pecos in the San Diego harbor. The Navy planned a start date of 17 September 2006 and a completion date of 2 October. BFS completed work on 21 September and met all government criteria.
HTA provides turnkey field logistics support services for government and commercial entities operating in austere environments. Most recently, HTA supported the inaugural launch from New Mexico’s Spaceport America. In this project, the HTA coordinated, scheduled, and managed the provision of food, water, transportation, shelter, and medical support services for the events and operations conducted by Space Services, Inc. and UP Aerospace, Inc. and over 300 launch participants. As the on-site representative for Space Services, Inc. HTA also coordinated event requirements with representatives from the State of New Mexico, Dona Ana County, Sierra County, the City of Truth or Consequences, and the Village of Hatch.
